Enable the firewall on Mac OS X which comes with an industrial-strength built-in firewall called IPFW that is part of Darwin, the FreeBSD Unix foundation upon which OS X is built. This firewall should be enabled if you use the Internet.
NEVER remove anything manually from the System Folders/library or any other folder/directory, doing so can render your machine inoperable!
If you are upgrading to Mac OS X 10.3 Panther or Tiger) (a) make sure scanners, printers, digital cameras and music players are compatible with Panther. If your devices work with OS X Jaguar, they will work with Panther
(b) you need a built-in USB, a G3, G4 G5 or Intel processor, at least 128MB RAM, you need 3GB free space on your hard drive and a built-in display or display connected to an Apple supplied video card.

Automatic unattended software updates are for your protection, ensuring your computer is up to date. I highly suggest you enable the software update features of any program/ operating system.
In OS 9 If you still use this consider switching to OSX. If your Mac doesn't wake up from sleep you have an extension conflict most likely. Turn off all extensions except the BASE and then manually put your computer to sleep from the pull down menu upon restart. If it goes to sleep and wakes again you can then start going through the extensions a few at a time until you find the culprit causing the conflict
Anytime you are having trouble booting, unplug everything from the back of your computer except the keyboard and monitor. About to give up? Temporarily unplug the external CDRW if you have one attached and reboot the system . It will usually come up then. Shutdown and then replug everything back in.
